(~ Video Tip ~)

Violin and viola players – you need to be sure you are as comfortable as possible while playing your instrument.

Shoulder rests, also called shoulder pads, help to fill the space between the instrument under your chin and your shoulder.  Playing without a shoulder rest can cause poor playing posture, neck discomfort, and even injury.

Shoulder rests come in many different sizes, shapes, styles, and prices.  I recommend choosing one that is adjustable to fit your shoulder-to-neck space, without rubbing on your collar bone (ouch!), and one that stays snugly on the instrument (as best as possible).  See my Violin and Viola Shoulder Rest Top Picks.
