A Season of Strings – Violin (download)

A pleasing collection of Christmas favorites for early-intermediate violin.  Sing-along words included.

Each song includes 3 separate violin parts, arranged to be played as solos, duets, trios, or as an ensemble in any combination with the other available instruments (there are 3 separate parts each for violin, viola and cello). The available Piano Accompaniment, arranged for intermediate piano students, offers support for all three solo instruments, and fills out the ensemble sound for any instrumental combination. This flexible format offers a vast array of performance possibilities, so the books may be used for years to come.

In this book, advancing beginners are pushed to learn new skills because the songs are familiar, while more advanced students may use the arrangements to experiment with playing in other positions, to hone vibrato skills and musicality, and to build ensemble-playing skills. Requires players to: play in the keys of C , G and D Major, and E minor; play in 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures; play slurred, hooked, and staccato bowing styles; play many rhythm combinations. For practice tips and help learning these songs, see my Play-Along Videos (← click the link) for this collection.

Song titles: Jolly Old St. Nicholas, Good King Wenceslas, Away in a Manger, The First Noel, Up on the Housetop, We Three Kings, Angels we have Heard on High, Deck the Halls, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Frosty the Snowman, Adeste Fideles, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Jingle Bells, Joy to the World, We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
